Debbie’s First Problem With My Answer (Continued)
Some people think that becoming a Christian means every thought that enters their heads is from God. Yikes! All kinds of thoughts rattle around in our brains–some from conversations with others, some from what we read, and some–heaven help us!–from TV. And some thoughts come out of our own neediness, though we might not admit it–even to ourselves.
How do we tell when it’s God and when it’s phony? We grow up spiritually.
We know about growing up physically. We’re born. That’s the easy part–at least for us. Then we learn to crawl; we learn to walk; we learn to run–physically, emotionally and intellectually. It’s a process we work through. Growing old happens; growing up takes effort.
It’s the same with spiritual growth. Again, birth is the easy part. It’s growing up that takes intentional effort, and part of that effort is learning to recognize God’s voice.
First, we know that God never contradicts himself. Anything from God will be consistent with what’s in the Bible, our text book.
And God won’t contradict what he created. God custom designed us to fit our reason for being, so our talents and abilities help point our way.
Crawling, walking, running–we get better as we go. Life makes more sense, too.
