The Christianity of Capitalism
While it’s politically correct to tout Socialism, it’s not Christian.
Only capitalism fits the Christianity of the Bible. Individual responsibility, not the share-the-wealth, spread-the-blame, beige oatmeal of Socialism, forms the foundation of both capitalism and Christianity. And capitalism agrees with Christianity about individual freedom, an emphasis on excellence, a strong partiality to making a difference and an unyielding insistence on human dignity and value. People–all people–matter.
Socialism, on the other hand, strips motivation and destroys dignity. It treats excellence and mediocrity as equals. Like Communism, Socialism treats humankind as cogs in the wheel it forces into motion. Only the elite matter. Socialism sees little value in most people.
Captalism’s weakness comes from the necessity of morality to keep it on track. Remove God from the marketplace, and you get trouble, real trouble. In River City and everywhere else. Financial scandals, such as Enron, FNMA, etc., all arise from immorality–mainly dishonesty, greed and an overweening sense of superiority and entitlement.
Christians can’t promote Socialism. A few may try, but there’s no amount of Scripture they can quote to make Socialism work with Christianity. If you encounter people claiming to be a Christian while promoting Socialism, know for sure they don’t understand one, or the other, or both.
Let me know your thoughts.
