I’m doing my monthly gig on Grace Talk Soup on 8/14/08. This month’s topic is emotionally arming and equipping kids, something we often fail to do.

I saw the security video of a young Florida girl being abducted. When the pervert (and I use the term advisedly) took her arm, she didn’t know what to do, so, being well-behaved, simply went with him. To her death.

Fortunately, that example is extreme, but kids need to be armed and equipped for everyday living, too. They need to know that there may be times to be the baddest kid they know how to be. Or to have a clever retort stored away “in case.” Done right, we won’t scare our children, but give them confidence.
